Hornton, Oxfordshire

The brief:

Anne and Mike dropped into the showroom one afternoon to discuss their options for a new kitchen and utility room. We had been on their radar for a little while through local word of mouth.

Having lived in their stunning Oxfordshire home for over 16 years they felt it was time to complete some renovations within the converted barn and opted to make a start with the kitchen and utility space.

As the property is grade II listed there are limitations to the work that could be done with opening up space, so the priority was making the most of the space that existed but creating a feeling of light and openness through colour choices and cabinetry.

They were looking for a complete change of style and the floor was also changed which made a significant difference to the finished project.

The Vision

Based on the brief for a simplistic, classic design, the style we opted for was our plain shaker kitchen design.

The design included an island with seating and storage, two integrated pantry cupboards and lots of accessible drawers.

To create the feeling of light in the rooms that have small windows, typical of the period of house, we opted for the Mylands colours Bond Street. 210, and Grosvenor Square.109. Colours that bounce back light throughout the rooms. The choice for an equally light floor tile also elevated this further to create a airy, light feeling within the rooms.
