The Brief

Phillip and Francis Wainwright came to us by personal recommendation and after visiting our Cropredy showroom they fell in love with the bespoke service we offer here at Cherrywood Bespoke. Phillip and Francis felt Luke was quick to grasp the type of space they were looking to create within their Victorian cottage and help them find some extra clarity for their vision.

The couple feel very fortunate to own one of the few private homes on the Lord Heseltine Estate within Thenford. Their charming Victorian cottage has evolved over the years with various extensions, during which time the kitchen began to feel somewhat detached from the rest of this lovely home.  Philip and Francis dreamed of an open plan kitchen dining room, with practical and spacious tall storage and an island experience to enhance the space.

They took the plunge and employed the expertise of M & P Scott Builders in Banbury to remove the wall between the kitchen and the dining room.  This brave move created a fantastic open plan space that stretched the full depth of the home from the front to the back of the cottage, and a perfect blank canvas for Luke to work with to help bring their dreams into reality.

Francis is a keen cook and thoroughly enjoys baking and sharing her culinary expertise with her grandchildren and really wanted to create an open warm kitchen vibe to spend most of their time in, to cook, bake and enjoy making family memories.

The Vision

We got to work designing a kitchen to complement the Victorian architecture of this cottage, recommending Shaker style cabinetry with quarter round beaded doors and a cock-beaded frame.  The colour scheme was calm and neutral, opting for Little Greene paint colour scheme using Clay and a Granite House stone in Frosty Carrina 30mm Quartz worktop.

We designed tall storage to accommodate extra large storage drawers underneath and appliances that included a combi-microwave within the same area. We also recommended a particularly useful tall single door larder that Francis was extremely happy with. Island ideas were discussed in detail but in the end Francis opted for peninsula which also perfectly separated the kitchen dining space.  Francis and her family now create lovely memories baking and eating at this space.

To bring this space together we discussed changing the flooring in detail and helped Phillip and Francis choose a natural limestone floor that was installed throughout the entrance hall, kitchen and dining room, to compliment the homely colour scheme.

The dining space offered us the opportunity to install a beautiful and also practical Everhot Stove for additional heat which incorporated an oven, for slow cooking.  This sat nicely within the chimney breast, a warming, fun and homely addition to this charming and enjoyable space.
