Judith was recommended to us through Bricks and Mortar, an Oxfordshire based project renovation company. Judith particularly wanted a handcrafted bespoke kitchen to complement the sensitive and complete renovation of her family’s three story Victorian home. We had some excellent details in the initial brief, incorporating some very personal touches and features from the current kitchen that held special memories.
Judith loves baking and cooking and really wanted extra work surfaces and a zone just for her baking appliances, and a first for Cherrywood Bespoke, she really wanted a slate work surface.
The Victorian architecture with expansive high ceilings in the kitchen area created a lovely canvas for her dream kitchen. A wall was removed the wall between the kitchen and the front dining room to further open up the space.
Judith opted for a very traditional and beautiful Shaker style kitchen in Maritime shade by Mylands London based paint company, with a dark grey slate work surface that complemented the oak floorboards.
We dedicated time to research and find the slate worktop to make her dreams become reality, finding a supplier from a quarry in Wales in a place called Clangholland. Synchronicity would have it that Clangholland happened to be home to Judith’s late grandparents, and she felt she might have played in the exact same quarry as a child. The stone added to the history and family linkage that her renovation project deserved.
We also re-used a much loved a slate slab that was in her current cold pantry on an exterior wall, and we focused on rehoming this within the pantry design. Judith had collected lots of different trays, pots and plates in variable sizes and we handcrafted storage units for these special items that meant a lot to her. Part of the excitement of having a truly bespoke handmade kitchen is the flexibility and personalisation that comes as part of the service we offer at Cherrywood Bespoke.
For the gas stove we recommended a Bertazzoni from the professional range, which is a delightful range oven to work on.
